Poultry Farming makes a substantial contribution
to household food security throughout the developing world.
It helps diversify incomes and provides quality
food, energy, fertilizers and renewable asset in over 80% of the rural
households.
However small-scale producers are constrained by
such challenges:
- Poor access to markets, goods and services
- Lack of knowledge and skills, weak institutions,
inappropriate technology.
- Poor breeds, feeds, and vaccines
Poultry farming is an income generating project- this is the main goal in poultry keeping.
Eggs can provide a regular albeit small income
while the sale of live and slaughtered birds provide a bit more
flexible source of cash as required.
